About Us
Old Stone Ltd took over the veterinary business in Alston
on 1st October 2005. We now have two full time veterinary surgeons
on site: Karl Collins and Helen Blackburn.
Since 2005 we at Old Stone have striven to provide a wider
more comprehensive service to all large animal, equine and small animal
clients. To achieve this we constantly strive to improve the
standard of care available at Old Stone and also to provide
more comprehensive facilities both surgically and medically.
It is our aim at Old Stone Vets to become a Royal College of
Veterinary Surgeons recognised Accredited Practice. This will
ensure that all aspects of veterinary care for your animals
will be of the highest standards.
Since Old Stone began trading in late 2005 we have employed
two receptionists (Kirsten & Gill) and two fully qualified
veterinary nurses (Christine & Claire). This enables us
to have the practice open all day for clients to get advice
or purchase routine flea/worm preventative treatments without
having to queue during busy consult times. Also with two qualified
veterinary nurses on site for all surgical procedures we can
ensure the highest standard of pre-, peri- and post-operative
care for your animals. With expert anaesthesia monitoring and
the latest anaesthetic drugs we can achieve safer and quicker
recovery from anaesthetics and hence patients can return home
quicker and with less post-anaesthetic effects.
At Old Stone we now have improved our in-house surgical equipment
to include new anaesthetic drugs and anaesthetic circuits,
new ultrasonic dental scaler and polisher, new surgical instruments,
in house blood biochemistry machine (which gives us blood test
results within an hour), in house PCV (packed cell volume)
reader which indicates red blood cells percentage in a sample,
Xray machine and automatic Xray processor. We also have Ultrasound
scanning facilities at our practice. All these developments
we feel are necessary for a fully capable veterinary practice.
